ALGIERS- More than 1000 publishers from 40 countries are taking part at the 27 th International Book Fair of Algiers (SILA), which will be held from 6 to 16 November, with the State of Qatar as a guest of honour, the Fair’s commissioner, Mohamed Iguerb, said Saturday in Algiers.
Iguerb underlined in a press conference, held at the National Library, with members of the Fair,s organizing committee, that this edition, to be held at the Exhibition Palace (Pins Maritimes, Safex), is “organized under the high patronage of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune,” under the theme “Read to Triumph,” in “honour of the 70th anniversary of the launch of the Glorious Revolution of November 1st.”
“1,007 publishers representing 40 countries, including 290 Algerian publishers, and more than 300,000 titles will be exhibited,” he affirmed, adding that “the Fair’s participants have benefited from customs tax exemptions so that book prices will be within readers' reach.”
According to Iguerb, the 27th edition will showcase the latest publications across literature, science, and other fields. The event features a comprehensive cultural program including conferences, panel discussions, industry networking sessions, and poetry readings by distinguished writers and intellectuals from Algeria, the Arab world, and beyond.
The Fair, which coincides with the 70 th anniversary of the outbreak of the glorious Revolution of 1 st November, places special emphasis on this historic milestone. The program includes several sessions dedicated to National Memory and the Liberation War, along with ceremonies honouring both living and deceased national literary and historical figures.
