APS - Signing of MoU between Sonatrach, Sonelgaz and four European companies on green hydrogen

ORAN — A memorandum of understanding (MoU) on green hydrogen was signed Monday in Oran between Sonatrach and Sonelgaz groups, VNG (Germany), SNAM (Italy), Sea Corridor (Italy) and Verbund Green Hydrogen (Austria).

The signing ceremony took place at the Oran Convention Center (OCC) on the sidelines of the opening of the 12th NAPEC.

The MoU focuses on the joint realization of necessary studies to assess the viability and profitability of an integrated project aimed at producing green hydrogen in Algeria to supply the European market via the “SoutH2 Corridor.”

This MoU “will enable the parties to jointly explore the opportunity to implement an integrated multi-party project spanning the entire green hydrogen value chain through the “SoutH2 Corridor.”

The signing ceremony was chaired by the Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, in the presence of the Ministers of Vocational Training and Education and of the Environment, the ambassadors of Italy, Germany and Austria. Also present were the CEO of Sonatrach, Rachid Hachichi, and of Sonelgaz, Mourad Adjal, Hans-Joachim Polk, member of the Board of Directors of VNG, Sergio Molisani, Director of the international division of SNAM, Francesco Caria, CEO of Sea Corridor and Franz Helm, General Manager of Verbund Green Hydrogen.

The realization of this ambitious project has the potential to satisfy the needs of the European market for green energy and to bolster Algeria's standing as a major supplier of energy to Europe.
