TAP - TAP seminar on uses of videos in news agencies closes

TUNIS/Tunisia - (TAP) - Tunis-Afrique-Presse (TAP) news agency held on June 18 and 19 a professional seminar on “Video Uses at News Agencies: Comparative Mediterranean Approaches,” in association with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the Alliance of Mediterranean News Agencies (AMAN). The seminar, which was attended by more than 30 journalists from several Arab and Mediterranean countries, is part of TAP’s concern to learn more about comparative experiences in the production of videos and audiovisual contents and to expand professional consultation before launching this new service in future TAP products. During the two-day meeting presided over by TAP CEO Rachid Khachana, participants discussed topics related mainly to the production of video content, the video editing process and the selection of audio clips in connection with the editorial line and the professional and commercial contribution this kind of product may provide to the news agency. Rami Samara, head of the multimedia department at the Palestinian news agency, gave a presentation on "the importance of video production in the news agency", while Mohamed Rahmouni, assistant editor-in-chief of the audiovisual department in APS spoke about: "Investing in human resources: When Technology is not solely a technical issue”. For her part, Nadia Abram, editor-in-chief of the audiovisual department at the Moroccan News Agency (MAP) focused on the experience of her agency in video content production, saying “MAP provides preferential services to its customers and partners.” Tuesday's speeches by César Akl, head of the audiovisual division at the Lebanese news agency and Ignacio Martin, a journalist from EFE news agency, and George Kouvaras, a journalist with the audiovisual section of the Greek news agency tackled the issue of video production from a press and technical perspective. The discussion focused particularly on a central issue: which complementarity between writing and video? For his part, Yilmaz Yaman, Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications at Turkish Anadolu news agency highlighted the marketing and promotional aspects of video productions, while Sherif Al-Toukhi, a video journalist at Egyptian Middle East News Agency (MENA), gave a presentation titled "Video journalism and its impact on social media sites.” Rachid Khechana, Chief Executive Officer of TAP news agency, George Penintaex, Secretary General of the Alliance of Mediterranean News Agencies (AMAN) and Holger Dix, resident representative of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung in Tunisia had stressed at the opening session of the seminar the importance of this meeting in sharing experiences in the production of video contents between news agencies from the technical and editorial viewpoints. They emphasised the need to the make the most of successful approaches in the two shores of the Mediterranean, especially the North Mediterranean likely to strengthen exchange and co-operation between them in a vital and important area which is the production and industry of digital content.
