Italy's world number one Jannik Sinner said Friday that he will not be able to defend his title at the China Open, which starts in Beijing next week, because he has still not recovered from the knee injury that has kept him out of action over the last few months.
    The 25-year-old has not played since retaining his Wimbledon title in July to claim the fifth Grand Slam of his career.
    "I'm sorry to announce that I won't be able to play in Beijing this year," Sinner said in a video posted on X.
    "My knee's not there where I'd like to be and I'm not ready to compete yet.
    "But I'll do everything possible to be there on court as soon as I can".
