Italy on Wednesday asked the European Commission to take a loan from the EU's SAFE (Security Action for Europe) facility of eight billion euro to invest in security and defence, EC sources said.
    The Commission has received the letter from Italy requesting to use SAFE funds, a senior EU official told ANSA.
    The final sum requested is €8 billion, out of the €14.9 billion originally reserved.
