Italy's Ginevra Taddeucci won the women's 10km open-water swimming event at the European Aquatics Championships in Paris on Tuesday while her teammate Linda Caponi took the bronze medal.
    The 29-year-old overtook the favourite, Hungary's Viktoria Mihalyvari Farkas, with a lap and half to go and pulled away to take victory.
    After the race, the new champion complained about the quality of the water in the River Seine.
    "The Seine was pretty filthy; I found all kinds of stuff—branches and leaves on my goggles—and then loads of plastic," Taddeucci said.
    Taddeucci and Caponi took Italy's medals tally up to 12, including four golds.
    The Azzurri's three other golds so far came in the diving, with victories in the mixed team event and the mixed 3 m springboard synchro and Chiara Pellacani's triumph in the 1 m springboard.
