ALGIERS - Algerian scientists and researchers praised the creation of the High Council for the National Scientific Community Abroad, established by decision of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, describing it as a "historic step" that will help unify Algerian scientific talent and connect it with the country’s higher education and research institutions, in support of national development.
Speaking to the press on the sidelines of the council’s founding meeting in Algiers on Sunday, the scientists and researchers emphasized the importance of "uniting the efforts of Algerian researchers abroad and coordinating their work to benefit universities, laboratories and national institutions," particularly since technology transfer should be "accompanied by a scientific environment capable of absorbing and building on it."
In this respect, Professor Saad Mekhilef, a professor at the University of Melbourne in Australia, specialized in renewable energy, expressed his pride in participating in this meeting, which he described "an opportunity to give back to the homeland through the transfer of expertise and contributing to the development of the renewable energy sector."
Professor Abdelaziz Hamzaoui of the University of Rennes in France called the council’s creation "a promising step toward delivering real added value for Algeria."
Meanwhile, Dr. Malika Ait Boudries, a researcher at Harvard University, described it as "a first building block for organizing the scientific diaspora," stressing the need to "move beyond one-off lectures toward genuine, sustained technology transfer and stronger scientific research."
Dr. Belgacem Haba, the prominent Algerian inventor in the field of electronics, highlighted the importance of creating a network of Algerian talent abroad to support universities and start-ups, expressing his hope that this council will be able to carry out the tasks assigned to it and achieve the goals that serve national development.
The Council of Ministers had approved, in its latest meeting, the establishment of the High Council for the National Scientific Community Abroad as an advisory body under the Presidency of the Republic, with financial and administrative independence.
Pertaining to this, the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, called on all Algerian scientists based around the world to participate and contribute to the project of advancing the country to reach the ranks of developed nations.
