ANSA - Four in 10 Italians have tried a social-media detox at least once - report

Around 17.8% fear they are addicted to social media says Censis

Nearly four in 10 Italians, 38.1%, have felt the need to do a 'social-media detox' at least once, taking a break from social media by limiting their usage time, deactivating or deleting their account, or uninstalling the app, according to the 2025 Communication report by research institute Censis, which was released on Tuesday.
The study said 15.3% of people here regularly take a social media detox.
It said that over a quarter of those who felt the need to disconnect from social media, (25.6%), did so because it was excessive distraction from daily activities.
It said 20.6% cited the need to reclaim time for themselves and for offline activities, while 17.8% acknowledged a feeling of addiction to its use and 17.4% wanted to protect their privacy.
The survey said 16.7% of people complained of social pressure and the constant comparison with others, and 14.9% felt it had a negative impact on their mood.
