ATA - March tourism up 11% as Middle East crisis triggers visitor diversion

TIRANA, April 24 /ATA/ Albania saw over 600,000 foreign visitors in March, representing a 10.8% year-over-year increase.

INSTAT data indicates a significant acceleration in tourism and personal travel, with momentum building rapidly after a sluggish first two months.

Following a slow start to the year, INSTAT figures reveal a sharp rebound in visitor numbers, signaling a strong resurgence in personal travel.

Safety fears in the Middle East have redirected travelers toward Albania, which is rapidly being recognized as a more secure, competitive holiday destination.

Tourism associations project a strong season, signaling a robust rise in year-round visitors that will directly boost the national economy and tourism sector.

Foreign nationals who visited Albania come mainly from Europe, where Southern Europe accounts for 80% of arrivals, while Western Europe contributes with 7%.

A growing influx from the Americas and Africa highlights a diversifying tourist market. Leisure travel dominates, with 97% of foreign arrivals classified as personal, while business-related trips remain minimal. /j.p/p.s./
