HINA - Science Festival opens across Croatia with energy as this year’s theme

ZAGREB, 20 April (Hina) - The Science Festival opened on Monday and runs until 25 April in more than 40 locations across Croatia and in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, featuring programmes focused on energy as a driver of life, science and society.

Organisers said this year’s edition would explore energy from natural processes to modern technological solutions, highlighting its role in human development and everyday life, drawing in part on ideas of Nikola Tesla.

Two exhibitions dedicated to Tesla will be held at the Nikola Tesla Technical Museum in Zagreb: Nikola Tesla  Avant-Garde of Science III, featuring library holdings, and Nikola Tesla and Philately.

The festival includes workshops, lectures, exhibitions and interactive programmes for all age groups, with events in cities including Zagreb, Rijeka, Osijek, Split, Slavonski Brod and Varaždin.

The festival also extends to the islands of Pag, Rab and Hvar, including open days at the Hvar Observatory, Croatia’s only observatory devoted entirely to professional astrophysics.

From 20 to 24 April, small groups of children will be able to visit the observatory, tour telescopes, observe the Sun and take part in demonstrations. The observatory will also open to the public on 25 April from 10am to 4pm, alongside public night sky observations.

The festival is held under the auspices of the Science and Education Ministry, with co-funding from the City of Zagreb.
