ANSA - Sinner back at number one spot after beating Alcaraz in Monte Carlo

'It's means a lot' says four-time Grand Slam winner

Italy's Jannik Sinner was back at the top of the ATP world rankings when they were updated on Monday after beating Carlos Alcaraz 7-6 (7/5), 6-3 in the final of the Monte Carlo Masters on Sunday to take the number one spot back from his Spanish rival.
"The result is amazing," said the 24-year-old four-time Grand Slam winner.
"Getting back to number one means a lot for me.
"I am very happy to win a big title on this surface (clay).

I haven't done it before and it means a lot to me".
It was Sinner's fourth consecutive ATP 1000 title.
He also won the Paris Masters towards the end of last season and arrived in Monte Carlo having completed the 'Sunshine Double' of taking the Indian Wells and Miami Open tournaments.
Sinner became the first Italian to be the World number one in June 2024 and held the position for 65 weeks until his defeat in the final of last year's US Open.
He briefly regained the top spot for a week in November after winning the Paris Masters.
