Dolce & Gabbana co-founder Stefano Gabbana has stepped down as the president of the Italian fashion house, the group said on Friday, confirming a report by Bloomberg.
Gabbana founded the luxury group in 1985 with his partner Domenico Dolce and the pair remain in charge of its creative ;direction.
The Dolce & Gabbana group said that it "confirms that Stefano Gabbana has resigned from his positions in the companies Dolce & Gabbana Holding Srl, Dolce & Gabbana Trademarks Srl and Dolce & Gabbana Srl effective January 1, 2026 as part of a natural process of organizational and governance evolution.
"This resignation has no impact on the creative activities carried out for the Group by Stefano Gabbana himself," it added.
CEO Alfonso Dolce, Domenico Dolce's brother, is the new president.
Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce both have stakes of around 40% in the company.
Bloomberg reported that Gabbana was considering options for his stake in view of negotiations with banks on refinancing around 450 million euros of debt.
The group, which has been hit by a slowdown in the luxury sector linked to geopolitical tensions, is also looking at selling real estate and renewing licences to raise cash, the report said.
"Regarding the debt, the company currently has nothing to declare as negotiations with the banks are still ongoing," the Dolce & Gabbana statement said.
