TIRANA, April 7 /ATA/ - Albania recorded an 11% increase in foreign tourist arrivals in March, reinforcing its position as a growing destination despite global headwinds, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports Blendi Gonxhja said on Tuesday.
A total of 609,363 foreign visitors entered the country during the month, up by 59,598 compared with March 2025, according to the Minister.
“At a time of global challenges, Albania is emerging as a safe and increasingly attractive destination for year-round tourism,” Gonxhja said, citing the country’s mix of natural assets, cultural heritage, hospitality, cuisine and arts.
The upward trend extended through the first quarter, with increases also reported in visits to cultural and historical sites, protected areas and castles across the country.
Authorities say they are seeking to expand year-round tourism by diversifying offerings across nature, culture, history, adventure and gastronomy.
Gjirokastra Castle drew 14,253 visitors in March, a rise of 57.6% year-on-year, reflecting growing interest in the UNESCO-listed city’s cultural heritage, according to regional cultural heritage officials.
