ANA-MPA - Diesel fuel: Subsidy comes into effect on Wednesday – reductions in refinery prices

A subsidy of 20 cents per liter on diesel fuel prices came into effect on Wednesday, according to government decisions aimed at addressing the impact of the crisis in the Middle East. The refinery price of diesel from Helleniq Energy stands today at 1.459 euros per liter, compared to 1.582 euros on Tuesday, while the price from Motor Oil is 1.452 euros on Wednesday compared to 1.58 euros on Tuesday. The difference, including VAT, amounts to 15.2 cents per liter, and the gap up to the 20-cent subsidy is due to rising international prices.
As the president of the Federation of Greek Fuel Retailers Michalis Kiousis stated to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency, the reduction will gradually be reflected in retail prices from Wednesday, as gas stations are supplied with fuel taxed at the reduced rate, always in relation to fluctuations in international prices that are reflected in refinery prices.
However, the tax reduction is ensured to pass through the supply chain, as a cap on profit margins has already been implemented: 5 cents in wholesale (trading companies) and 12 cents in retail (gas stations).
This will be followed by support for citizens through a digital card for use at fuel stations, public transport, and taxis, corresponding to a subsidy of approximately 36 cents per liter of gasoline.
The subsidy through the fuel pass is set at 60 euros for cars in island regions and 50 euros for the rest of Greece, while for motorcycles it is 35 euros for island regions and 30 euros for the rest of the country.
