ATA - PACE rapporteurs highlight Albania’s progress in implementing Council of Europe recommendations

TIRANA, March 31 /ATA/ Parliament Speaker Niko Peleshi held talks on Tuesday with Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly rapporteurs Ionut‑Marian Stroe and Pavel Jablonski, focusing on the progress of reforms and democratic standards in the country.

Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly rapporteurs Ionut‑Marian Stroe and Pavel Jablonski said during talks with Albanian Parliament Speaker Niko Peleshi that Albania has made progress since exiting the monitoring system in April 2024, particularly in fighting corruption, strengthening media freedom, protecting minority rights, advancing judicial reform and strengthening institutional independence.

Peleshi briefed the rapporteurs on the work of the special commissions tasked with implementing electoral and administrative‑territorial reforms, underlining the importance of these processes for strengthening democratic institutions.

Parliament Speaker Niko Peleshi said cooperation with the Council of Europe and its Parliamentary Assembly is seen as key to the country’s journey toward European Union membership.
