President Sergio Mattarella and Premier Giorgia Meloni on Tuesday laid wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Rome's Vittorio Emanuele Monument, otherwise known as the Altar of the Homeland, during a ceremony to mark the Italy's Day of National Unity, the Constitution, the Anthem and the Flag.
Italy celebrates national unity on March 17 as the unification of Italy was proclaimed in Turin in March 17, 1861.
"I invite you to uphold and implement, with consistency and foresight, the principles of freedom, justice, and peace upon which the Republic is founded, so that they may continue to guide the actions of institutions and society in the pursuit of peaceful, supportive, and authentically democratic coexistence,' Mattarella said in his message for unity day.
Meloni expressed: "thanks go to all those who contribute to making Italy a united nation".
