ATA - Albania tests cross-agency response to simulated biological incident at Tushemisht border point

TIRANA, March 16 /ATA/ The General Directorate of Customs, in cooperation with the State Police, the National Food Authority, and public health institutions, conducted a simulation exercise at the Tushemisht border crossing point as part of a European Union project aimed at strengthening biosafety capacities.

Representatives from the Institute of Public Health, the State Health Inspectorate, and the National Emergency Service also took part in the activity, testing on-site the procedures of response and inter-institutional coordination in the event of biological incidents.

During the exercise, an emergency scenario was simulated to assess the speed of response by the relevant structures, the communication between institutions, and the management of situations that could threaten public health and border security.

The Director General of Customs, Besmir Beja, stated that the exercise represents an important step in enhancing the readiness of institutions in the face of biological risks.

“This exercise is an important step for preparedness and inter-institutional cooperation, ensuring the protection of citizens and the country’s borders,” Beja said.

Such activities aim to strengthen the operational capacities of Albanian institutions and enhance the level of coordination in addressing emergency situations related to biosafety.
