ANSA - Sinner beats Fonseca to reach Indian Wells quarter-finals

Italian world number two prevails 7-6 (8/6), 7-6 (7/4)

Italy's world number Jannik Sinner needed to win two tie-breaks to beat 19-year-old Brazilian Joao Fonseca 7-6 (8/6), 7-6 (7/4) late on Tuesday to reach the quarter-finals of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Indian Wells.
"Joao is an incredible player, incredible talent, very powerful from both sides.

He was serving very well," Sinner said after the triumph.
"I felt like trying to be as aggressive as possible was the key.
"I dropped a bit of intensity at the end of the second set but he played incredible tennis out there.
"The atmosphere has been amazing, so I'm very happy about today's match".
Sinner, 24, will face American Learner Tien in the last eight as he bids to win Indian Wells for the first time and complete his set of titles at all six hard-court Masters 1000 events.
