APS - Kaylia Nemour claims silver on balance beam at Gymnastics World Cup

BAKU- Algerian Olympic champion Kaylia Nemour claimed the silver medal in the balance beam event on Sunday, during the second stage of the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup, currently being held in Baku (Azerbaijan).

The 19-year-old Algerian finished second with a score of 13.800, behind Japan’s Okamura Mana (14.133), who took the gold medal and ahead of another Japanese gymnast, Miyata Shoko (13.533), who won bronze.

The Olympic champion had claimed gold the previous day on the uneven bars with a total score of 15.233, including a difficulty score of 7.0 and an execution score of 8.233, far ahead of the two Russian gymnasts Vasileva Leila (14.033) and Shtykhetskaya Sofia (13.800).

This participation marks a new milestone for the Algerian gymnast in the 2026 World Cup circuit, following the first stage held in Cottbus (Germany), last February, where she won the silver medal on the balance beam.

Her compatriot, Luna Hamames, also 19 and competing for the Hyères Club in France, took part in this stage as well.

Her participation aims to gain further experience and highlight the progress of Algerian gymnastics on the international stage, according to the Algerian Gymnastics Federation.

After the second stage in Baku, the competition will continue in Antalya (Turkiye), Cairo (Egypt) and Osijek (Croatia), before concluding in Doha (Qatar), between 14 - 18 April.
