ANSA - Tennis: Sinner eases into Indian Wells last 16

Paolini progresses too but Cobolli knocked out by Tiafoe

Italy's world number two Jannik Sinner beat Denis Shapovalov 6-3, 6-2 late on Sunday to ease into the last 16 of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Indian Wells.
The 24-year-old will face Brazilian teenager Joao Fonseca in the next round as he bids to win Indian Wells for the first time and complete his set of titles at all six hard-court Masters 1000 events.
"Denis is a high quality player" Sinner, who dropped his serve to love in the opening game, said after the match.
"He's in-form, so I'm very happy with my performance.
"I tried to stay solid at the baseline, but also be a bit more aggressive in the second set, which helped me.
"It was a tough start for me, but I'm happy with how I reacted".
However, Sinner's compatriot Flavio Cobolli lost 6-1 6-2 to American Frances Tiafoe in the third round.
Italy's top-ranked woman Jasmine Paolini beat Australian Ajla Tomljanović 7-5, 5-7, 6-1 to progress to the last 16.
