Italy's Luciano Darderi beat German Yannick Hanfmann 7-6 (6) 7-5 on Sunday to win the ATP 250 tournament in Santiago, Chile, on the same weekend that his compatriot Flavio Cobolli triumphed at the Acapulco ATP 500 with a victory over American Frances Tiafoe.
Darderi's triumph means he is the player to have the most tour-level clay titles since the start of the 2024 season - five, one more than world number one Carlos Alcaraz.
The rude health Italian tennis is enjoying was reflected in the updated ATP world rankings on Monday, with eight Italians in the top 100.
They are world number two Jannik Sinner, Lorenzo Musetti (5th), Cobolli (15th), Darderi (21st) Lorenzo Sonego (61st), Matteo Berrettini (66th), Matteo Arnaldi (85th) and Mattia Bellucci (94th).
