Juventus and Atalanta both have mountains to climb to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League after losing 5-2 and 2-0 away from home to Galatasaray and Borussia Dortmund respectively in the playoffs on Tuesday.
Things had looked to be going well for Juve in Istanbul when Teun Koopmeiners put them ahead with a double after Gabriel Sara opened the scoring for the hosts.
But Noa Lang equalised for the Turks at the start of the second half, then Davinson Sanchez made it 3-2 for them before Juventus defender Juan Cabal got a second yellow card.
That enabled Galatasaray to run away with it, with Lang scoring his second of the night and Sacha Boey completing the rout.
Things are only slightly less complicated for Atalanta, who were sank by goals by Serhou Guirassy and Maximilian Beier in Germany.
Italy's other surviving representative in the competition, Inter, visit Bodo Glimt in the playoffs later on Wednesday.
