TIRANA, Feb 15 /ATA/ Scanderbeg Castle provides an enthralling experience for visitors who choose this destination, seamlessly combining seaside tourism with rich historical heritage.
Prime Minister Edi Rama on Sunday shared images on social media of this first-category Cultural Monument, where history and nature come together in an exceptional setting.
Scanderbeg castle lies in the northeastern part of the Cape of Rodon—known locally as Kepi i Muzhit. From its position, it overlooks the expansive waters of the Adriatic Sea, as well as the bays of Patok and Shëngjin.
Dating back to the 14th century, the castle was originally built as a fortification featuring a 100-meter defensive wall that extended from one side of the cape to the other.
According to the earliest records, the castle had a square layout consisting of four towers.
Today, only the central tower, standing 10 meters high, and a small section of the walls remain from the fortress. Coastal erosion has caused a part of the walls to sink beneath the waters of the Adriatic Sea.
Visitors can see the outer walls on the right side, which end with a round tower.
