NNA - President Joseph Aoun : Pope’s visit to Lebanon was a historic turning point

NNA - President Joseph Aoun said that Pope Francis’ visit to Lebanon was a pivotal and transformative moment.

He emphasized that the visit reaffirmed Lebanon’s role as a cultural and civilizational message that goes beyond its small size. It corrected the narrative, showing that Lebanon is not a "problem," but a "value." Lebanon is a homeland of knowledge and creativity, a land that has embraced all divine religions, built bridges, and broken barriers. It remains a center of coexistence and a key to peace in the entire region.

The President added that the papal visit provided a moral, spiritual, and national boost. It revived hope among Lebanese citizens and sent a message to the world that Lebanon is neither abandoned nor alone. As a model of diversity and religious coexistence, Lebanon is essential to building peace and strengthening the values of human fraternity in a region beset by conflict and instability.

President Aoun made these remarks during a dinner at Baabda Palace hosted by him and First Lady Nemat Aoun. The event honored those who contributed financially and morally to the success of Pope Francis’ visit to Lebanon on November 30 and December 1–2.

The dinner was attended by Apostolic Nuncio Monsignor Paolo Borgia, ministers, security chiefs, governors, heads of humanitarian and social organizations, media institutions, and other key contributors.
