IOC President Kirsty Coventry expressed gratitude to Italy on Tuesday that everything is ready for Milano Cortina 2026 with three days to go to the opening ceremony at the San Siro stadium.
    "We thank our Italian friends; everything is ready to welcome the world's best athletes," Coventry told the IOC's 145th session in Milan.
    "As we prepare to share these moments, let's remember that athletes are the joy of the Games and the entire Olympic movement.
    "They remind us of our goal: to celebrate them and help them inspire the world.
    "We all share the power of sport and the responsibility to protect it.
    "The Olympics is celebration of humanity at its best.
    "Athletes from around the world living together, respecting one another.
    "This is the foundation of our mission, which is to strengthen the Olympics so it can continue to inspire, unite, and bring hope to the world".
