ATA - Gonxhja announces Tirana Mosaic nomination for ArchDaily’s 2026 Building of the Year

TIRANA, Feb 2 /ATA/ The prestigious architecture magazine ArchDaily has nominated the Tirana Mosaic for the “Building of the Year 2026” award.

The Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Sports, Blendi Gonxhja, announced the news, noting that the monument represents a fusion of archaeological heritage preservation and contemporary architecture.

Gonxhja stated that the nomination places Tirana on the global architectural map as a model of dialogue between the history and the present.

The Tirana Mosaic, dating from the 3rd century, was uncovered in the 1970s during construction of a residential block.

The Tirana Mosaic is a modern, newly designed space that serves as a platform for the display of the city’s most significant mosaics, while also emerging as an important cultural destination for Tirana.

With proper conservation and educational programs for children and youth, the space offers a fresh perspective on the contemporary interpretation of Albania’s archaeological heritage.

Beyond its historical value, the building serves as a visual reference center for the mosaics hidden within Albania’s rich archaeological heritage.
