Lusa - Business News - Macau: Region hosting China infrastructure forum with 70-plus countries, regions

Macau, China, June.14,2024(Lusa)- Representatives from more than 70 countries and regions covered by China's 'Belt and Road' initiative will take part in the 15th International Forum on Infrastructure Investment and Construction from 19 to 21 June, in Macau.
More than 50 activities, such as speeches, forums, conferences, exhibitions, themed seminars, roadshows, networking and index dissemination, will take place over the three days of the International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum (IIICF).
"Several conferences will incorporate Sino-Lusophone and Macau elements, focussing on topics such as infrastructure cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, the role of the Sino-Lusophone Platform in construction projects and technologies, and the direction of development of Macau's construction sector," the Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) said in a statement. "The activities aim to foster exchanges and cooperation between the infrastructure sectors of different regions and deepen Sino-Lusophone cooperation in infrastructure, producing more solid results in the construction of the Sino-Lusophone Platform."
On the first day of the IIICF - whose theme this year is 'Green Innovation, Digital Connectivity' - there will be the 10th Infrastructure Co-operation Forum between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries and the Commercial Exchange Session on Infrastructure Co-operation between Shandong province in eastern China, Macau and Portuguese-language countries.
Organisers said that, in this activity, the exchange of opinions will be focused on the ecological and innovative transformation of infrastructures.
"With the participation of Shandong province, a province that is highly competitive in contracting projects and equipment, the forum will have the contribution of various guests to analyse ways to strengthen cooperation in areas such as green technologies, digital economy, green finance and clean energy, with a view to ensuring green and low-carbon development of infrastructure within China, in Portuguese-language countries and in Macau, as well as sharing opportunities for cooperation brought about by new infrastructure projects," IPIM said in a statement.
Last year, during the forum, the first Portuguese-speaking Countries Infrastructure Development Index was published, showing the following ranking: Brazil (1st), Angola (2nd), Mozambique (3rd), Equatorial Guinea (4th) and Portugal (5th) were the highest-ranked Portuguese-speaking countries in the new Chinese index, followed by Timor-Leste (6th), Cabo Verde (7th), Guinea-Bissau (8th) and Sao Tome and Principe (9th).
In previous years, the IIICF had published the Belt and Road Infrastructure Development Index, the initiative announced by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013 and which involves 71 countries in Beijing's strategic plan to develop maritime, road and rail links, as well as investment in energy resources.
