Lusa - Business News - Portugal: EasyJet Portugal cabin crew only flying 'minimum services'

Lisbon, June 1, 2023 (Lusa) - EasyJet said on Thursday that cabin crew members' adherence to the strike at the company base in Lisbon recorded a 58% adherence, with the union, in turn, reporting 100% adherence in the morning.
"EasyJet has so far recorded an impact of 58%. In other words, 42% of crew members have reported for duty," said an official source from the airline.
These figures contrast with those that were advanced to Lusa, in the morning, by the president of the National Union of Civil Aviation Flight Personnel (SNPVAC), Ricardo Penarroias.
"Similar to the other strike days, the adhesion is 100%. The flights had been cancelled by the company when we gave notice of the strike and the minimum services that had been decreed," he said.
According to Penarroias, today's minimum services are only being carried out in Lisbon and Porto, with all flights from Faro cancelled.
"Today there are 12 flights cancelled in Faro - that's all, 44 in Lisbon and 26 in Porto. There will be 10 minimum service flights from Porto and six from Lisbon", he said.
According to the president of the SNPVAC, the company acknowledged that the impact of the strike would be 100% and therefore cancelled flights in advance.
"As for the negotiations, we remain at an impasse. The company has a posture that we do not understand very well. Faced with the strike notice, the company decided that it does not want to sit at the table with us during the strike period," he recounted.
On 11 May, in a statement, SNPVAC said easyJet continued to consider crew members at Portuguese bases "minor workers" perpetuating their "precariousness and discrimination in relation to colleagues from other countries".
According to the union, "the climate of tension and discontent, and the long impasse in resolving various labour disputes, led the SNPVAC to present a pre-strike notice" for 26, 28 and 30 May, and 1 and 3 June.
In the three days of strike action so far, the union and the airline have presented very different figures, with easyJet claiming a membership of between 55% and 60% and the union pointing to 100%.
The strike covers "all flights by easyJet", as well as the "other services to which cabin crew are attached", whose "presentation hours occur in the national territory starting at 00:01 and ending at 24:00 of each of the days" mentioned, reads the strike notice, released by the union.
When it was notified, easyJet said it was "extremely disappointed" that the strike was called, considering the union's proposal for increases of between 63% and 103% "unworkable", and announced it would make changes to flights ahead of the strike to mitigate the impact on customers.
In a statement on 19 May, the SNPVAC guaranteed that "easyJet has previously decided to proceed with massive flight cancellations: of the original 458 flights leaving the Portuguese bases of Lisbon, Porto and Faro, the airline has already previously cancelled 384 flights, or 84% of planned flights".
