Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Over 50 musicians in Lisbon's Alfama fado music festival this weekend

Lisbon,Sept.23,2022(Lusa)–More than 50 performers, including Maria da Fé, Ricardo Ribeiro and Dulce Pontes,take part in the Santa Casa Alfama Festival, which opens on Friday night in Lisbon.
The fado festival takes place, today and Saturday, in the Lisbon neighbourhood of Alfama, where several stages are set up and where local institutions open their doors to host different shows.
In this year's edition, the shows on the Santa Casa stage, located next to the Cruise Terminal, facing the Tagus River, will be interpreted in Portuguese sign language.
On this stage, there will be a tribute to Max (1918-1980), pointed out by the organization as "one of the central figures of Portuguese popular music of the 20th century", who recorded songs such as "Noites da Madeira", "As Bordadeiras", "Porto Santo", "Pomba Branca" and "Sinal da Cruz", besides fado, namely "Fado Meia Noite", "Tenho Saudades de Mim" and "Vielas de Alfama".
On the walls of the Cruise Terminal, today and Saturday, a 'videomapping' about the career of the creator of "A Rosinha dos Limões" will be exhibited and, on the Santa Casa stage, António Zambujo, accompanied by the musicians André Santos, Joel Silva, Francisco Brito, Graciano Caldeira, Gustavo Paixão, and Bruno Ponte, will sing songs from the repertoire of the Madeiran singer.
Also today, Jorge Fernando, former guitar player of Amália Rodrigues, and author of songs such as "Chuva" and "Valsa dos Amantes", as well as Rodrigo Lourenço and João Leote, will be performing on this stage.
Also on this stage, but on Saturday, Dulce Pontes invites Ricardo Ribeiro to perform together. Aldina Duarte will also perform, and the project "The Divas", consisting of Alexandra, Lenita Gentil, Maria da Fé and Maria da Nazaré, will be presented.
On the terrace of the Cruise Terminal, one of the neighbourhood Fado houses, A Tasca do Chico, presents its cast, which includes Adriano Pina, Filipa Maltieiro, Vera Varatojo and João Carlos, among others. On Saturday, "Em Casa d'Amália" will be presented on this stage, a television programme coordinated by José Gonçalez, with the participation of, among others, Ângelo Freire, Flávio Jr.
Among the recreational institutions that open their doors to the festival, the Cultural Centre Dr. Magalhães de Lima receives today Rogério Charraz, with "O Fado no Coreto", and, on Saturday, Agir and the guitar player José Manuel Neto, who invites Rão Kyao.
In another institution, the Grupo Sportivo Adicense, receives today João Casanova and, on Saturday, Nuno Aguiar, who is celebrating 70 years of career.
The Boa União Society receives today the Musical Society of Cascais Fado School, with the fado singers Julieta Afonso, Lourenço Afonso, Manuel Pinto and TóPê, and on Saturday the Lisbon Friends of Fado Club, from the Lisbon neighbourhood of Marvila, will be represented by the voices of Joana Carvalhas, Carla Arruda and Carlos Sobral.
The S. Miguel and Stº Estêvão churches open their doors to receive Fado singers such as Miguel Ramos, who invites the musician Pedro Joia, Ana Sofia Varela and a group of Fado singers from Porto, who will also pay tribute to Max.
At the S. Miguel square, "Fado à Janela" will take place, with several guitarists playing Fado melodies.
On the Amália Rodrigues Stage, set up in a law firm, Deolinda de Jesus and Filipa Vieira will perform today, and on Saturday, Matilde Cid and Zé Maria.
On the esplanade of the Fado Museum, there is a stage for amateurs to perform, coordinated today by Tomás Marques and on Saturday by Tânia Pataco.
In the square of Chafariz de Dentro, in front of the museum, on the stage of the St.ª Maria Maior Parish Council, two fadistas from the neighbourhood, Bruno Igrejas and Ana Marta, who received the Amália Rodrigues Revelation Award/2011, perform, among others.
Last year, with the limitations imposed by health regulations in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Festival was attended by 3,500 people.
