Lusa - Business News - Portugal: TAP not offering planned excellent service, will do better - CEO![]()
Lisbon, July 4, 2022 (Lusa) – The chief executive officer (CEO) of TAP, Christine Ourmières-Widener, has admitted that the airline "is not offering the excellent service" that it had planned, after a weekend with several cancellations. In a message published on Monday, addressed to customers, the manager reported the difficulties experienced by the carrier in recent times, warning that the constraints will remain, but that it will do "better to return to providing" quality, punctuality and confidence. "At this moment, we recognise that we are not offering the service of excellence that we planned and that we want you to experience with us, in view of the crisis that air transport is going through and which, according to the most recent forecasts, is not expected to improve in the coming weeks, as a result of the regular increase in leisure and business travel," wrote the CEO, offering the airline's "most sincere apologies". "The last two years have been very difficult for all of us, especially for the commercial aviation sector, extremely penalised due to the pandemic," she indicated, guaranteeing that "all TAP Air Portugal employees have worked resiliently and consistently on rebuilding the company and winning back" the trust of passengers. "This weekend was not easy for TAP due to various constraints," she lamented, adding that "only with the commitment and effort of the teams, both on the ground and in the air, was it possible to provide the best possible service to our passengers, get them to their destination and normalise operations." "There is nothing we all want more than to take Portugal to the world and bring the world to Portugal already this summer. This is our reason for existing and it is to fulfil this goal that we have all been working in recent months," stressed Christine Ourmières-Widener. The CEO pointed out, however, that "even though restrictions on passenger mobility have mostly been lifted, air transport, as well as its structure and complementary services, faces a serious limitation of resources globally, at a time when flight operations have virtually gone from zero to around 90% of pre-pandemic levels." "We assure you that TAP and all our teams are committed at this time to minimising as much as possible any and all inconveniences that may arise during your journey with us, hoping to have a more robust and well-functioning air transport by the summer of 2023," the CEO said. "We thank you, as always, for your loyalty and we also hope to count on your understanding if your journey has not yet met your expectations. We are doing our best to once again provide you with the quality, punctuality and trust that you deserve and that you will certainly have from TAP Air Portugal, as soon as possible," concluded the airline's CEO. This weekend, the airline cancelled several flights in view of the constraints affecting operations around the world, given the rapid recovery of traffic after an almost total paralysis due to the pandemic.
