Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Business groups set up first Portugal-Morocco Economic Council

Lisbon, Nov. 24, 2021 (Lusa) - The Confederation of Portuguese Business (CIP) and Morocco's Confédération Générale des Entreprises du Maroc (CGEM) have set up a Portugal-Morocco Economic Council to deepen economic relations between the two countries, encompassing representatives of the digital, textile, automotive, aeronautics, health, energy and metalworking sectors.
In a statement, CIP said that "on the occasion of the visit of Portugal's Secretary of State for Internationalisation, Eurico Brilhante Dias, to Morocco" it had "coordinated the visit of a business mission to Rabat and Casablanca with the aim of signing with CGEM ... the convention that formally constitutes the Portugal-Morocco Economic Council."
According to CIP, the new body will act to deepen economic relations between the two countries and also strengthen ties between private business entities.
It will be composed of representatives of the digital, textile, automotive, aeronautics, health, energy and metalworking sectors.
The agreement was signed by CIP's vice-president and leader of the Portuguese delegation, Armindo Monteiro.
The delegation also included Rafael Campos Pereira of the Association of Metallurgical, Metal Mechanical and Allied Industries (AIMMAP), Manuel Grilo of the Vocational Training Centre for the Metallurgical and Metal Mechanical Industry (CENFIM), Pedro Ramalho and Adão ferreira of the Association of Manufacturers for the Automotive Industry (AFIA) and Miguel Rodrigues of the Textile and Clothing Association of Portugal (ATP).
CIP also had a meeting with officials at Morocco's Ministry of Industry and took part in a business forum focussed on the energy sector.
