Lusa - Business News - Angola: Sonangol to launch Lobito refinery tender in July

Luanda, June.22,2021(Lusa)- Angolan oil company Sonangol is due in July to launch a public tender to select the entities that will be part of the corporate structure of the company that owns the Lobito refinery and fund the project.
In a statement, Sonangol said that the launching ceremony would be held on 9 July, and that it would present the results of preliminary economic feasibility studies on the processing capacity considered for construction of the Lobito refinery, in one or more phases, with a view to reaching 200,000 barrels of oil per day.
During the ceremony, the requirements and main terms of reference for participation in the public tender, as well as the associated schedule, will also be presented.
Angola despite being an oil producing country has only one refinery and resorts to importing fuel, and construction of new refineries is underway in Cabinda, Soyo and Lobito, as well as modernisation and optimisation of the Luanda Refinery.
In 2019, Angola spent US$1.7 billion (€1.427 billion) to import three million metric tons of fuel.
