MAP - La mosquée Al Quaraouiyine, un édifice de prière et de savoir en renaissance perpétuelle

Fès -21 avril 2021-(MAP) -Après de longs siècles d'existence et de gloire, la mosquée Al Quaraouiyine constitue toujours une destination pour des centaines de fidèles pour accomplir la prière, s’instruire et admirer la beauté d’un édifice religieux à la notoriété universelle.

La mosquée construite en 859, sous le mandat de Fatima Fihriya, préserve à ce jour sa vocation de lieu de spiritualité, de culte et de sciences. Ses érudits jouissaient de l’estime et du respect auprès des sultans du Maroc qui les consultaient en tout ce qui se rapporte à la religion et la gestion des affaires de la vie. Les habitants de Fès, qui y voient de véritables références, leur demandent également conseil.

Mosquée d'abord, université par la suite, la bâtisse à son édification autorisée par Yahia 1er, petit-fils d'Idriss II Al Azhar, ne dépassait pas 1.248 m2. Son agrandissement, ses transformations et ses réfections ont été concrétisés par les dynasties qui se sont succédé à Fès.

La mosquée qui a été fréquenté par une pléiade de savants dont Ibnou Rochd, Ibn Arabi, Ibnou Bajja, Ibnou Khaldoun et Abdessalam Ben Mchich, est devenue après les différentes transformations un symbole de la ville de Fès et un joyau rassemblant les spécificités originales de l’architecture ancestrale.

Accessible facilement depuis la place R’cif, ce lieu de culte et de savoir est doté de trois portes intérieures et 14 extérieures, jouxtant plusieurs autres sites historiques et culturels, dont l’école El Masbahya, la place Saffarine et la galerie commerciale El Kifah.

Témoin de la grandeur architecturale de la civilisation arabo-musulmane, la mosquée comprend 16 nefs ornées chacune de 21 arcs qui partagent les espaces et un oratoire Zénète au style hispano-mauresque.

‘’La mosquée a été transformée par la suite en une université, laquelle s’est illustrée par l’instauration de chaires scientifiques spécialisées et la soutenance de la première thèse en médecine dans l'histoire’’, a déclaré à la MAP l’imam superviseur de la mosquée, Abdemajid Mardi, ajoutant que pendant l’ère des Mérinides, le nombre des chaires a dépassé 140 chaires.

La mosquée Al Quaraouiyine a bénéficié, a souligné M. Mardi, d’un intérêt particulier auprès de la dynastie Alaouite qui l’a réhabilité et maintenu la tradition universitaire à l'intérieur de la Mosquée en la dotant d'une deuxième bibliothèque et s'attelant à la restauration de ses documents et manuscrits.

L’université Al Quaraouiyine est considérée comme la plus ancienne au monde par l’Unesco, le Guinness des records et de nombreux historiens. Encore en activité, elle a contribué à la production du savoir, de la science et des connaissances et à la préservation de la langue arabe, de l’islam du juste milieu et l'unité nationale.
