MAP - 'Gharbaoui : L’envol des racines', une exposition évènement au Musée Mohammed VI d'art moderne et contemporain

Rabat - 22 septembre 2020 - (MAP) - Le musée Mohammed VI d'art moderne et contemporain, a ouvert lundi, une exposition événement en hommage à Jilali Gharbaoui, précurseur de l’abstraction lyrique et gestuelle et l’un des fondateurs de la modernité artistique au Maroc.

Fruit d'une collaboration institutionnelle entre la Fondation Nationale des musées (FNM), la fondation Al Mada et le groupe Attijariwafa Bank, cette exposition événement, intitulée "Gharbaoui : L’envol des racines", réunit plus de 70 oeuvres retraçant la carrière prolifique de l'artiste, qui puise ses racines dans l'ambiance artistique des années 50 et 60.

Elle sera ouverte au public du 23 septembre au 8 février 2021.

Elle est enrichie par une chronologie retraçant la vie de Jilali Gharbaoui, parti très jeune à l'âge de 41 ans (1971), et d'une documentation issue de la vie artistique et personnelle du peintre, notamment des archives de presse, des catalogues, ses dessins d'expositions, des projets de livre et des notes.

L'exposition jette la lumière sur les œuvres picturales de ce créateur, qui laisse toute la liberté à l'imprévu des matières et à l'aléatoire du geste, avec des traits répétés à l'aide d'une pointe, signature singulière de l'artiste dénotant une certaine dérision.

Pour le président de la FNM, Mehdi Qotbi, malgré la pandémie du coronavirus "cette chose qui traine partout", la culture doit demeurer, car elle est "l'essence même de la vie".

Dans une déclaration à la MAP à l'occasion de l'inauguration de l'exposition, M. Qotbi a indiqué que "Gharbaoui et (l'artiste peintre Ahmed) Cherkaoui, sont les deux plus grands artistes marocains. Ceux qui ont insufflé la modernité d'un héritage exceptionnelle de couleurs et de gestes".

En cette période difficile, a-t-il poursuivi, "nous avons besoin de lumière et des couleurs que Gharbaoui nous offre aujourd'hui". Jilali Gharbaoui s'est toujours "battu pour la modernité et pour qu'on le regarde avec les yeux d'un grand artiste".

M. Qotbi s'est dit particulièrement "ému" par cette exposition, qui lui rappelle aussi le rôle que le défunt Gharbaoui avait joué dans sa propre vie d'artiste.

Dans un commentaire de Gharbaoui, exposé parmi les documents retraçant sa vie, l'artiste se remémore son retour au Maroc en 1956, où il avait exposé quelques affiches à Rabat et à Tanger. Les spectateurs, poursuit le témoignage, "étaient ébahis. Ils se sont regroupés autour des affiches, bouche bée... C'était quelque chose de nouveaux pour eux. J'insiste donc sur le fait que le Maroc a connu l'abstraction en peinture avec moi, puis avec Cherkaoui après moi... Quant à l'abstraction d'une façon générale, elle a bien entendu été apportée par les arts décoratifs islamiques et l'architecture".

Cette exposition a été rehaussée par la présence de plusieurs personnalités, notamment la ministre du Tourisme, de l'Artisanat, du Transport aérien et de l’Economie sociale, Nadia Fettah Alaoui, le Directeur général de la MAP, Khalil Hachimi Idrissi, l’ambassadrice de France au Maroc, Hélène Le Gal, le Directeur général de la Caisse de dépôt et de gestion (CDG), Abdellatif Zeghnoun et des personnalités issues du milieu artistique et culturelle, notamment Fouad Bellamine et Abderrahman Tazi.

Jilali Gharbaoui est né en 1930 à Jorf El Melha dans la région de Sidi Kacem et est décédé à Paris en 1971. Placé dans un orphelinat à l'enfance puis livré à lui-même à l’adolescence, Gharbaoui sera un homme "seul", en quête de lumière et de liberté.
