Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Between 8-14 Sept. 2145 road accidents with 12 deaths, 42 serious injuries recorded

Lisbon, Sept. 15, 2020 (Lusa) - The security forces registered almost 13,800 violations in Portugal during the road safety campaign "Cinto-me vivo", which ended on Monday and aimed to alert drivers and passengers to the importance of always using safety devices.
During this campaign, under the responsibility of the National Road Safety Authority (ANSR), the National Republican Guard (GNR) and the Public Safety Police (PSP), 41,150 vehicles were inspected and 13,795 violations were registered.
In a statement, ANSR said that 1,180 of the registered infractions were related to safety devices: 1,069 for incorrect or non-use of seat belts, 80 for incorrect or non-use of child seats and 31 for lack or improper use of helmets.
The campaign, which took place between 8 and 14 September, is part of the National Inspection Plan for 2020 and was publicised in the digital media and through ANSR's awareness-raising actions, at the same time as the inspection operations carried out by GNR by the PSP.
As far as accidents are concerned, according to ANSR, a total of 2,145 accidents were recorded during the same time frame, resulting in 12 fatalities, 42 serious injuries and 654 light injuries.
