Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Sabrosa hosts world olive oil competition between 23-25 August

Sabrosa, Portugal, Aug. 13, 2020 (Lusa) – Sabrosa hosts between 23 and 25 August the Brazil International Olive Oil Competition, one of the world's largest olive oil events, which will have 80 samples from 11 different countries, the sponsors said on Thursday.
Quinta do Portal, in the municipality of Sabrosa, district of Vila Real, will host the second gastronomic competition that wants to help amplify with consumers, distributors, chefs and restaurants the work that is done by producers in the area of olive growing.
The winner of the first competition, held in August 2019 in São Paulo (Brazil), was the "Quinta do Portal Azeite Virgem Extra Premium" and therefore the Douro property receives the contest in 2020.
The competition has 80 samples from Portugal, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Spain, United States of America (USA), Greece, Italy, Tunisia, Turkey, and Uruguay.
At the end of 25 August, the results will be known. The jury is composed of experts of four different nationalities.
After several years of producing olive oil for consumption in its restaurants, Quinta do Portal has made a more serious investment in olive growing from 2017 onwards, with two new olive grove plantations.
The company is committed to exports, with Brazil as one of its main destinations.
Quinta do Portal is a company dedicated since 1990 to the production of fortified and table wines.
