Luanda, Aug.13,2020(Lusa)–Angola has registered 27 new cases of Covid-19 including one in Huila, which has become the 14th Angolan province affected by the disease, the Secretary of State for Public Health announced.
According to Franco Mufinda, who presented the data in the daily epidemiological balance (on Wednesday), besides Huila, another case was diagnosed in Kwanza Norte (Cazengo municipality, which is under sanitary cordon), the remaining 25 being from Luanda.
The infected are between 1 and 74 years old, 14 males and 13 females.
Two people were also reported as recovered.
Franco Mufinda also presented the territorial distribution of Covid-19 in Angola: Luanda with 1,700 cases is in community transmission, Kwanza Norte with 18 cases of local transmission, Zaire with 14 cases, Cabinda with nine, Bengo and Kwanza Sul with five cases, Cunene with three imported cases, Benguela with two imported cases, and Uíje, Lunda Norte, Malanje, Bié, Moxico and Huíla all with one imported case.
Only four provinces have not yet been affected: Namibe, Cuando Cubango, Lunda Sul and Huambo.
In total, Angola has diagnosed 1,762 infections, of which 80 have resulted in deaths, 577 have recovered and 1,105 are in an active phase of the disease, of which five are critical and 21 severe.
The secretary of state also said that an epidemiological study was carried out on the 100 cases reported on Sunday, Aug. 9, which concluded that 30 are oil workers in rotation on the platforms of Block 3.
According to him, public health measures have been taken with screening and testing, and those infected are already in Luanda receiving medical care, and the contacts of these people are being properly monitored.
In the next 48 hours the withdrawal of workers from the platforms should end.
"We are taking disinfection measures by areas and replacing the affected team," added Franco Mufinda.
In Africa, there are 23,616 confirmed deaths in more than a million people infected in 55 countries, according to the latest pandemic statistics on the continent.
Among the African countries that have Portuguese as their official language, Equatorial Guinea leads in the number of cases and deaths (4,821 infected and 83 deaths), followed by Cape Verde (2,920 cases and 33 deaths), Mozambique (2,559 cases and 19 deaths), Guinea-Bissau (2,088 cases and 29 deaths), Angola (1,762 infected and 80 deaths) and Sao Tome and Principe (878 cases and 15 deaths).
