ATA - COVID-19/ Ministry of Health: 125 new cases, 1 death, 37 recovered patients in past 24 hours
TIRANA,Aug10/ATA/–The Ministry of Health and Social Protection reported Monday a total of 125new COVID-19 cases in the past 24hours in Albania. Rovena Daja, an expert from the Public Health Institute, said in a daily briefing that the infection’s incidence rate last week in Albania was 214,9 cases per 100 000 people. “The highest incidence rate has been recorded in Tirana, followed by Durresi and Shkodra, whereas Elbasan has registered the lowest rate. The average age of the confirmed COVID-19 cases is 47 years old. The age group between 55 to 64 years old is accounted for the highest percentage of individuals who have contracted the virus or around 19,7%, followed by the group age of 25 to 34 years old accounting for 18,5% of the confirmed cases,” Daja said. “Tests were conducted on samples from 506 suspected individuals and 125 of them tested positive for the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours. The geographical distribution of the fresh daily cases is as following: 68 cases in Tirana, 15 in Korça, 10 in Durres, four cases each in Shkoder, Lezhe, Berat, Gjirokaster, and three cases each in Lushnje and Kurbin, two in Devoll, and one case each in Elbasan, Kukes, Puke, Permet, Sarande, Divjake, Kolonjë, Gramsh,” Daja informed. According to her, 37 more patients recovered in the past 24 hours, bringing the total of recovered coronavirus patients to 3379 since the outbreak of the virus in early March. Family doctors are closely monitoring and the active coronavirus cases that have shown mild or no symptoms and currently quarantined in their own homes across the country. According to Daja, a total of 122 patients are currently being treated at the Infectious Diseases Hospital and at the Shefqet Ndroqi University Hospital, 19 of whom are in intensive care and three are intubated. “Suspected COVID-19 patients are being treated along with the confirmed coronavirus patients according to respective treatment protocols in the two COVID-dedicated hospitals,” she said. Daja said that a 55-year-old woman from Vlora died of the coronavirus in the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 200 in the country. She reiterated the appeal from the Ministry of Health, urging people to strictly comply with the mandatory mask rule in the indoor spaces, maintain physical distance and personal hygiene and immediately dial the emergency line 127 if suspecting of any COVID-19 symptoms.
