Lusa - Business News - Mozambique: Saipem to train Lurio university students for LNG megaprojects

Maputo, Feb. 21, 2020 (Lusa) – Final-year students at the University Lúrio (UniLúrio), Cabo Delgado province, northern Mozambique, are to benefit from training in oil and gas, as a result of the agreement with the Italian company Saipem, the institution said on Friday.
According to a statement, the agreement aims at cooperation between the two institutions to promote the development of technological solutions and training.
The agreement also provides for research in the fields of science and technology and internships for final year students of UniLuri, the note added.
The communiqué highlighted that students and faculty of UniLurium will undergo training to obtain knowledge in the areas of engineering, construction and project management in the oil and gas sector.
The university's dean and Saipem's human resources director hope to raise the skills of students and faculty to international standards.
"This is a unique opportunity for the university, for faculties, for professors, researchers and other staff," said Francisco Noa, the dean of UniLuri, quoted in the note.
For UniLurium, the agreement is important, since it links the institution to a company present in over 70 countries.
Saipem is a leading company in engineering, drilling and construction of large projects in the energy and infrastructure sectors.
The multinational is listed on the Milan Stock Exchange and has 32,000 employees of 120 nationalities.
Saipem in Mozambique leads with 75% the CCS joint venture for the EPC contract of the Mozambique LNG project in Area 1 in Cabo Delgado province and drilling the offshore development wells of the coral field with the Saipem 12000 drilling rig in Area 4.
