Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Rodrigo Leão releases new 'electronic environmental' album 'O Método'

Lisbon, Feb.21,2020 (Lusa)–The new album by Rodrigo Leão, a Portuguese composer and musician and producer who has toured widely abroad and produced the music for several Hollywood films, is released on Friday.
Titled ‘O Método’ (The Method), the album’s title track and one other, "A Bailarina" (The Dancer), are already out.
According to Leão’s agent, the album is "marked by electronic environmental sounds" and features special guest performances Casper Clausen, Federico Albanese, Ângela Silva, Viviena Tupikova and a Portuguese choir, the Associação Musical dos Amigos das Crianças.
Concerts at which the album is to be presented are to take place next Thursday at Lisbon’s Centro Cultural de Belém and on 9 March at Porto’s Casa da Música.
Also on Friday the single "The Boy Inside" is released, which according to Leão "ended up being the only track on the CD that is sung in English, more marked by pop music influences, but it wasn't inspired by pop music at all, on the contrary!” He explains: "It started off inspired by the bells I heard from a cathedral in Antwerp, Belgium. And also by a choir that I was lucky enough to hear in the church of Loutolim, in Goa, and in a book that I was reading at the time, 'The Tartar Steppe’, by Dino Buzzati."
According to Leão, the track began by conveying “some mystery, some disquiet” that he picked up from these three inspirations. “At the suggestion of our co-producer, Federico Albanese … we ended up inviting a singer I admire a lot, Casper Clausen from Efterklang, to write a lyric and to sing on the track.
“I already knew Casper's work and I was very happy to invite him,” Leão continues. “And it so happens that he is now living in Lisbon."
The new album has 12 tracks – all of them original and unreleased material by Leão himself. It follows the album ‘Cérebro: Mais Vasto Que o Céu’ (Brain: Vaster Than the Sky), which was released last year.
‘O Método’ is released internationally by BMG Spain, after Leão last year for the first time in his career signed a direct contract with an international label. Previously he had licensed released for distribution abroad.
Born in Lisbon in 1964, Leão was a member of the globally successful group Madredeus for a decade, before beginning a solo career that started with ‘Ave Mundi Luminar’ in 1993, released by Sony, the label with which he has been linked for most of his career.
Since then he has worked with many leading performers, including Portishead vocalist Beth Gibbons, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Ludovico Einaudi.
