APS - Charter of Ethics on electoral practices signed by presidential election candidates

APS-ALGIERS–The five candidates of the presidential election of 12 December have signed Saturday the Charter of Ethics on the electoral practices, elaborated the national Independent Authority on Elections (ANIE).

The Charter of Ethics includes the leading guidelines and practices which compose the moral behavior framework which all the players of the electoral process are required to implement.

The Charter was signed by President of ANIE Mohamed Charfi as well as by the five candidates for the highest office of the country, respectively Abdelaziz Belaid, Ali Benflis, Abdelkader Bengrina, Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Azzedine Mihoubi.

The signing ceremony, which took place in the International Conference Center (CIC) in Algiers, has been attended by Ambassador Resident Coordinator of the Operational Activities of the United Nations Development System, Ambassador of Indonesia, representative of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Ambassador of Cameroon, Representative of the African Group, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman, Representative of the Arab Group, Ambassador of Syria, Deputy Dean of the Accredited Diplomatic Corps in Algeria, as well as the president of the Audiovisual Regulatory Authority (ARAV).

At the end of the signing ceremony, Charfi said that the Charter initiated by the ANIE, in accordance with the provisions of the organic law, "has been elaborated after consultations on the principle and content."

The signature by the ANIE and the presidential candidates of the Charter reflects "the commitment of all to contributing to building a consensual State, based on the free choice for all, in all circumstances and whenever it is necessary."

The Charter is not "a new invention" since it has been adopted a quarter century ago by several countries.

The Charter, signed for the first time in Algeria, is consensual and compulsory for the candidates running for president of the Republic, the different media and the ANIE.
