Lusa - Business News - Portugal: East Timor-Portugal, growing interest in cooperation

Lisbon, Sept. 10, 2019 (Lusa) – The president of the Camões Institute for cooperation and language said on Tuesday that East Timor shows “growing interest" in cooperation with Portugal.
Luís Faro Ramos, who was recently in East Timor to sign cooperation projects in the area of education, told Lusa “The high point of the visit was the signing of a protocol for a new program of continuous training in the Portuguese language for teachers in higher education, with a cost of €16.28 million by 2022, which will involve 86 trainers, 33 Portuguese and 53 Timorese, reaching 4,300 Timorese teachers per year”.
Portugal is financing this project with €3.3 million, with the remaining amount being borne by East Timor.
The Camões Institute also has the "Language Clinic for Journalists" project in East Timor, whose diplomas of the first phase were delivered during the presence of Luís Faro Ramos in the country and should soon start a second phase.
Both in Pro-Portuguese and in the 'Language Clinic' there is an intention on the part of the Timorese authorities to involve themselves in a more substantial way in the financing of these projects.
Portugal is also developing, through the Portuguese Ministry of Defence, the "On the Move" programme of Portuguese manuals for military personnel, with funding from the Ministry of Labour and Solidarity.
In the area of agriculture, the Portuguese Ministry of Agriculture is developing the "Quinta Portugal" project.
In June, Portugal and East Timor signed the 2018-2022 Strategic Cooperation Programme (SGP) in Lisbon, which will have a financial envelope of €70 million and as a priority projects in the area of education.
