ATA - Albanian feature film 'Open Door' premiered in main competition of Sarajevo Film Festival

TIRANA,Aug 22/ATA/–Albanian feature film “Open Door” by the young filmmaker Florenc Papa will be screened in the main competition of the 25th edition of Sarajevo Film Festival.
Minister of Culture Elva Margariti said Thursday that the film’s participation in Sarajevo Film Festival was “an open door for the Albanian cinematography.”
“Open door by Florenc Papa, starring Luli Bitri, Jonida Vokshi, Gulielm Radoja, Sotiraq Bratko etc, competes for the grand prizes awarded by one of the most important film festivals. We are anxiously waiting for the Festival’s awards ceremony,” Margariti said.
“Open Door” tells the story of two sisters who will embark on a journey, confronting at times the traditional patriarchal system. The main character is Elma, a young Albanian girl who lives in Italy illegally. She is pregnant and the baby’s father is already in prison. After being deported by the Italian police, not knowing whom to turn to for help, she decides to return to her older sister, Rudina.
The two sisters set off on a long journey with her unmarried pregnant sister, Elma, to meet their strict, traditional father in the Albanian village where they were born. As Rudina’s car makes its way across the mountains, Elma comes up with a plan to enlist an ex-classmate to play the part of her husband. The centers on three characters, two sisters Rudina and Elma and Rudina’s 5-year-old son.
The film’s topic focuses on the clash between the traditional and the modern and the everlasting confrontation between the generations. “Open Door” deals with this topic, though it does not claim to mean that our whole society is traditional and patriarchal, but it does claim that these forms still exist and are present in society.
Supported by the National Cinematography Centre and filmmaker Eno Milkani, “Open Door” a co-production between Albania’s Bunker Film, Kosovo’s Circle Production, Italy’s Lupin Film and Macedonia’s Award Film & Video. Germany’s Patra Spanou has the international rights.
This year’s edition of Sarajevo Film Festival is taking place from 16-23 August.
