Lusa - Business News - Portugal: ÉvoraWine to showcase more than 250 wines in May

Évora,Portugal,April.16,2024(Lusa)-More than 250 wines from Alentejo producers will be on display this year at ÉvoraWine,an event taking place in Évora on 24 and 25 May, which also brings together gastronomy, culture and traditions, the organisers announced on Tuesday.
The wine event, now in its 9th edition, will be held in Praça do Giraldo and is promoted by two companies, with the support of the Alentejo and Ribatejo Regional Tourism Authority, the Alentejo Regional Wine Commission (CVRA) and Évora Town Hall.
In a statement, the organisers said that this year's event has "numerous new features", one of which is the extension of the space, since ÉvoraWine will occupy "the entire available area of Praça do Giraldo".
This "will allow producers to share the knowledge and flavours of the Alentejo with the calm that is so characteristic of the region", he added, noting that the event "brings together wine, gastronomy, culture and traditions" from the Alentejo.
Presented as the "biggest wine event in Alentejo," the event "will feature a showcase of more than 250 wines from the region," said the organisers. They predicted that, in this edition, the event would attract "around 8,000 national and foreign visitors" over the two days.
"Gastronomy will also feature prominently in this 9th edition, with the establishment of partnerships that will allow visitors to dine on-site and taste typical Alentejo dishes," said the organisers.
The president of the Alentejo and Ribatejo Regional Tourism Authority, José Santos, quoted by ÉvoraWine, emphasised that "wine is now one of the main anchors for visits to the region".
And for this reason, the event is "important for boosting tourism in the region", he said.
"This event is the only one in the Alentejo region that puts producers in direct contact with national and foreign consumers, which makes it a highly rich source of information about the wines produced in the Alentejo," said Reto Frank Jorg, the event's organiser.
He also emphasised that the event "is an open door for tourism, which is essential for the growth and recognition of the region".
