Lusa - Business News - Angola: Significant proportion of population 'not starving' but in difficulty
Luanda, Sept. 13 (Lusa) - Angola's minister of agriculture and forests, Marcos Alexandre Nhunga, said on Wednesday that the country has a "significant proportion of the population that is not starving", but "is in a difficult situation". Marcos Nhunga was speaking to journalists about the food and nutrition security report prepared by the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), which reported that 23.9% of the population in Angola is starving, meaning 6.9 million Angolans do not have minimum access to food. Marcos Nhunga added that the observation is different from what it may seem. “[Angola] still has aq significant (proportion of the) population, I do not say they are starving as such, but in a difficult situation. That is exactly why the government wants to improve and is making interventions in the productive activity in the rural environment to solve the problems related to hunger and poverty”, he stated.
