Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Algarve policing beefed-up as biker festival gets under way

Lisbon, Jul. 19 (Lusa) – The Portuguese police (PSP) have sent more officers to the Algarve, particularly to the bar districts of Faro, Olhão and Portimão, because of a huge biker festival that starts on Thursday.
Without saying whether the increased security was because of fears of confronts between biker gangs, which led to the arrest of 59 Hells Angels last week, the police said that “as in previous years, it would be present at the Faro motorcycle festival.
The police have also sent dog-handlers who will patrol the nightlife areas in the three towns that are usually frequented by the bikers who attend the festival.
There will also be day and night stop operations to check the bikes and riders.
Police commissioner João Moura told Lusa that a team of Spanish police officers was also in the Algarve to offer support to Spanish bikers.
