Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Lusa shareholders unanimously elect board led by ex-Expresso deputy

Lisbon, Mar. 21 (Lusa) – A new board of Lusa, Portugal’s national news agency, was on Wednesday unanimously elected by shareholders at its general assembly, according to company officials.
The new president is Nicolau Santos, former deputy editor of Expresso newspaper.
“The board was unanimously approved,” said the vice-president of the assembly, António Simões Silva, adding that shareholders had voted on seven out of the eight points on the meeting’s agenda.
"Only the last point was postponed to 10 May,” he said, in a reference to the Plan of Activity and Budget for this year.
The proposal to postpone the discussion and vote on this point was opposed by Lusa’s non-state shareholders, Lusa Global Media and Impresa.
The Portuguese state has a controlling stake in Lusa.
Earlier Portugal’s minister of culture, Luís Filipe de Castro Mendes, had told a conference in Lisbon that Lusa from now on would have "a leadership capable of taking its project forward", and that the agency has "a clear and defined strategy.”
The government’s decision to nominate Santos for Lusa president, replaced Teresa Marques, emerged in December.
