NNA - Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Bechara Boutros Rahi at Al Azhar Conference opposes restricting Al Quds to any religion

NNA - Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Bechara Boutros Rahi called for prayers for peace and Al-Quds, saying that the City of Al-Quds should not be exclusive to one religion or leadership.

Patriarch Rahi's fresh words on Wednesday came in his delivered word at the inaugural ceremony of the International Al-Azhar Conference in support of Al-Quds, organized by Al-Azhar Center in Cairo, under the patronage of Egyptian President, Abdel Fatah al-Sisi.

In his delivered word, Rahi spoke about the role of religious institutions in restoring awareness in Al-Quds cause.

Rahi's word centered on two parts, the first a historic summary of Al-Quds and the second related to actions needed to be undertaken in support of said cause.

The Patriarch noted that the issue of Al-Quds is inseparable from the question of Palestine, saying that peace and coexistence in the Holy Land and in the Middle East cannot be realized without resolving the political question of Al-Quds and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Rahi said "Al-Quds cause is at the heart of the Catholic Church", indicating that Al-Quds forms a treasure for all mankind in view of its special extraordinary heritage of all three monotheistic religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. "This holy city is their spiritual capital," he said.

"Let's pray together for peace and Al-Quds," Rahi said, calling for internal solidarity and working together to prevent anyone from instigating partition amongst Arabs, leadership and peoples.

Rahi also stressed that the city of Al-Quds should not be exclusive to one religion or leadership.

The Patriarch also called for nourishing the spirit of "love for Al-Quds" in families, schools and universities, and in mosques and churches.

Rahi stressed the need for an intelligent and programmed media practice, in accordance with a clear plan with patent objectives in dealing with the subject.

The Patriarch concluded by wishing the Conference all success in attaining its most wanted goals.
