MAP - La FAO compte sur le Maroc pour partager son expertise avec le continent africain

Rabat - 18 avril 2019 - (MAP) -L'Organisation des Nations unies pour l'alimentation et l'agriculture (FAO) compte considérablement sur le Maroc pour partager son expertise et sa "belle" réussite dans le domaine agricole avec le continent africain, a affirmé, mercredi à Rabat, la candidate de la France et de l'Union européenne au poste de Directeur général de l'organisation onusienne, Catherine Geslain-Lanéelle.

"Le Maroc est un pays très actif au sein de la FAO conduisant beaucoup d’actions de coopération commun dans le cadre des partenariats Sud-Sud et triangulaire, en capitalisant sur son expérience et ses réalisations dans le domaine de l'agriculture", a souligné Mme Geslain-Lanéelle dans un entretien à la MAP.
La française en visite au Maroc pour prendre part au Salon International de l'Agriculture et promouvoir sa candidature dans le contient, a indiqué que le plan Maroc Vert se veut la vitrine qui illustre cette "belle" réussite, citant la réalisation en dix ans, de plus de 250.000 postes d'emplois, le développement d'une agriculture moderne à haute productivité, ainsi qu'une augmentation notable dans la diversité des produits agricoles.
Elle a dans ce sens fait part de la détermination de la FAO à aider le Maroc à poursuivre ses efforts à créer davantage d'emplois en milieu rural et de faire en sorte que les petits d'agriculteurs, aujourd’hui très "centrés" sur leur subsistance, puissent intégrer l'économie de marché dans une agriculture plus commerciale pour permettre de nourrir mieux la population locale, mais aussi d'exporter vers d'autres pays.
Mme Geslain-Lanéelle, qui a dirigé pendant plus de sept ans l'Autorité européenne de sécurité des aliments (EFSA), explique que son choix de venir en Afrique quelques jours seulement après l'audition des quatre candidats à la FAO n'est pas le fruit du hasard, soulignant sa volonté d'aider le continent à surmonter ses nombreux défis alimentaires liés principalement à la croissance démographique et à la lutte contre les changements climatiques.
L'Afrique possède des atouts et des potentialités énormes pour relever le défi de promouvoir les activités agricoles, l'augmentation de la productivité agricole et assurer sa durabilité, a-t-elle relevé, notant qu'il ne s'agit pas de "plaquer" un modèle type dans les stratégies des pays africains, mais plutôt de s'inspirer et tirer profit des solutions et des réalisations des expériences réussies.
Évoquant son fer de lance pour sa candidature à la tête de la FAO, Mme Geslain-Lanéelle a fait savoir qu'elle entend donner un nouvel élan à cette organisation Onusienne en attirant davantage les investissements publics et privés dans le secteur agricole, en particulier dans les pays en développement, affirmant qu'il sera question tout simplement de contribuer à produire suffisamment d'alimentation pour le monde, tout en mettant en place une agriculture plus durable et plus résistante au dérèglement climatique.
Dans un monde où la population agricole vieillit, l'ensemble des parties prenantes ont besoin de reconnaitre le secteur agricole comme un secteur d'avenir, et ce à travers la création de toute une série d'activités économiques, de transformation de distribution de commerce et de services qui peuvent "nous aider à offrir un avenir meilleur aux jeunes dans le milieu rural".
Parmi les actions envisagées par la première femme candidate à la direction de la FAO, figure également la consolidation du rôle de la femme envers le secteur et dans l'ensemble des programmes et des activités de la dite organisation.
En dépit du rôle essentiel qu'occupe la femme dans les systèmes alimentaires à l'image des champs, des usines et dans le commerce, cette dernière se heurte à des difficultés à accéder aux ressources et aux crédits, admet la candidate française de 55 ans, promettant qu'elle va œuvrer à aider les gouvernements à mieux reconnaitre cette réalité et collaborer pour en faire face.
Catherine Geslain-Lanéelle est actuellement déléguée ministérielle auprès du Ministre français de l'agriculture et de l’alimentation et membre du conseil d'administration de l’école nationale vétérinaire de Toulouse. Elle a occupé des plus hautes fonctions au ministère de l'Agriculture français en étant successivement sous-directrice des échanges internationaux "aide alimentaire et coopération internationale", puis directrice générale de l’alimentation et enfin directrice générale de la performance économique et environnementale des entreprises.
Elle vient de se lancer dans une campagne électorale pour le poste de Directeur général de l'Organisation des Nations unies pour l'alimentation et l'agriculture (FAO), dont le vote aura lieu le 22 juin par les 194 pays membres de l’organisation.
